Michael Bachmann

Michael Bachmann is Professor of Immunology (Tumorimmunology), Institute of Immunology, “Carl Gustav Carus” Medical Faculty, Dresden University of Technology and Director of the Institute of Radiopharmaceutical Cancer Research, Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf. Since 2006 he serves as vice-chairman of the Tumor Immunology study group of the German Society of Immunology. He has been awarded several prestigious national and international awards, such as Bruno-Schuler Prize of the German Society of Rheumatology, Robert Feulgen Award of the International Society of Cytochemistry and Histochemistry or the award of the German Society of Cell Biology. Prof. Bachmann published over 250 original articles which are highly cited. His research in the fields of tumorimmunology and autoimmunity is focused on developing and optimizing novel tools for reprogramming effector cells of the immune system including T-cells, Natural Killer cells, and dendritic cells. These tools will be helpful for modulation of immune responses, including activation of the immune system against tumor cells or virus infected cells, destruction of autoreactive cells in an antigen specific manner, and modulation of immune responses including the induction of antigen-specific tolerance. His team has already developed targeting strategies for surface molecules on leukemic cells and prostate cancer, or a universally applicable inducible surface target antigen.
